Biography

Annie Franklin is a multi-disciplinary dance artist based out of Chicago, Illinois and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Western Michigan University. With ten-plus years of teaching experience, nationally and internationally, Anniespecializes in intersecting the distinct relationships between authentic hip-hop street styles and foundation, improvisation and freestyle methodologies, and contemporary dance movement. 

Annie was the former artistic director of Hip Hop ConnXion and general artistic director for Archangels based in Chicago and has represented her creative work and pedagogy throughout the nation such as American College Dance Association, World of Dance, Urbanite, Carnival Choreographers Ball LA, MAMBY On The Beach, REVEAL and World Championships of Hip Hop International. 

Annie was selected as a Chicago DanceMakers Forum grant recipient in 2020  where she was commissioned ten thousand dollars to create digital artistic work during the pandemic: “Shaping Lens; An Artists’ Playbook.”: A four episode documentary aimed to provide insight on how a conceptual movement dance-for-camera is created and executed through her eyes. This work was then selected to screen at Pivot Arts Film Festival in Chicago in 2021.
