Emily Uematsu Adviser of the Month

from the Association of Professional Advisers & Counselors (APAC) at UW:

Please join us in congratulating Emily Uematsu as our September 2022 APAC Adviser of the Month! Emily is an Academic Adviser at UW Seattle's Department of Dance.
Emily’s nominator said, "Emily stepped into this role while also completing her own studies as a graduate student. She spent the entire year getting herself up-to-speed on the nuances of the dance department and updating processes all while gracefully filling any need or gap that impacted the student experience. She had stepped into a vacancy with very little orientation infrastructure, only days before the school year started. Yet, Emily found her footing extremely fast and has defined herself as a valuable, highly visible, always accessible, and deeply conscientious resource to our students, faculty, and staff in the department. Emily helped make it possible for our department -- most importantly our students! -- to return to on-campus life this year. We would have been in rough, deep waters without her!"
We are so glad to be able to recognize Emily! Please see below to learn more about her.
Adviser or advisor?
Adviser
How long have you been on campus?
I have been on campus for a little over four years, but I have worn many hats: an undergrad student, a master’s student, a UAA peer adviser, and the Department of Dance adviser.
What are some exciting projects you just completed or are currently working on?
My colleague recently repainted the bulletin boards in our hallway and I am currently working on making a large “Advising” section with useful information for our students!
What is your favorite thing about UW?
It is a big campus with a variety of resources but also has many small communities where we can find belonging.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not on campus/working?
I love to dance, read, and drink tea!
Favorite place to eat in Seattle:
Homegrown at U Village is always my favorite place to eat! Their Match Chicken Avocado Salad and Chickpea Za'atar Sandwich are the best.
