Submitted by Lisa Kwak on September 13, 2022 - 4:22pm

From September 30- October 1, 2022, Robyn Orlin’s work And so you see... our honourable blue sky and ever enduring sun... can only be consumed slice by slice...,” will be presented by the Meany Center for the Performing Arts at Meany Hall - Studio Theatre.

Produced in partnership with Bill T. Jones and New York Live Arts, South African choreographer Robyn Orlin created this critique of shifting power relationships for the 20th anniversary of the end of apartheid. Playful, ironic and featuring dancer and performance artist Albert Ibokwe Khoza, the work is a journey through the seven deadly sins that Orlin considers a “requiem for humanity.”

UW Professor of Dance and English and former Divisional Dean of the Arts Catherine Cole specializes in African performance and has written program notes for this performance that are available here.  And in this video, she shares her thoughts about Orlin’s work.
