The Dance Majors Concert will be online and free. Stream the concert on your own time starting April 16.
Featuring new works from nine choreographers who explored the medium of dance on film, many for the first time, themes range from childhood and relationships gained and lost, to dreams and the joy of grooving to your favorite song. These films were inspired by many different sources such as the movement within biological processes, finding intimacy despite isolation, and dancing alone in your bedroom.
This year’s concert features a diverse range of movement styles including contemporary modern, tap, jazz, ballet, aerial, and street styles. Although COVID-19 brought limitations to the rehearsal process, the choreographers embraced the opportunity to step outside the box of making dances for a concert stage. The films were shot in various locales within the Greater Seattle area—Golden Gardens Park, Padelford Garage, an Everett pier, the Studio Theatre at Meany Hall for the Performing Arts—as well as Oklahoma City and San Diego.
