What Makes a Body Move? 

Sankai Juku dancer Seminaru leads participants through the evolutionary movement of Butoh, focusing on the relationship of the body to gravity, the earth, and the environment. Some movement background recommended, formal dance training is not necessary.

About Sankai Juku:

Sankai Juku is considered one of Japan’s finest examples of Butoh dance. The company was founded in 1975 by Ushio Amagatsu, the visionary choreographer behind Sankai Juku’s extensive body of work. He is known for creating sublime visual spectacles and deeply moving theatrical experiences. For their return to Meany Center, the company will perform their latest work, Meguri: Teeming Sea, Tranquil Land, a poetic meditation on the passage of time as symbolized by the circulation of water and the seasonal transformation of the earth.
