Judson Dance Theatre: The First Decade
The year 1961 found a group of renegade choreographers together in a class that planted the seeds of post-modern dance and opened the art form up to an unlimited palette of expression. Rarely performed, works include choreography of Steve Paxton, Lucinda Childs, Trisha Brown and Yvonne Rainer. The dancers, fascinated with philosophies and religions such as Existentialism and Zen Buddhism also embraced freedom, diversity and democracy. Included on the program is choreography by Zvi Gotheiner, whose work thirty years later was foreshadowed by these genre-changing Judson artists.
