Biography

Hadi Yusri is a creative artist and community activist, born in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Throughout his time at UW, he debuted two group ensembles which are ember (2022), a collaboration with UW Treble Choir and Miss V's in TOWN! (2023), a vogue-sensual group number highlighting Ballroom. Hadi immerses himself mainly in the study of vogue, sensual, post-modern contemporary, and street styles dances. Hadi is also one of the few screendancers in the department who has collaborated with his dance-major peers to direct dance films across genres, mainly for hip hop and contemporary dance pieces. This Spring, Hadi graduates as a Dance major, while triple-minoring in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies (GWSS), Mathematics, and Diversity. You can find Hadi around his black-pink bike at Red Square and at the Ave when the days do not rain.

What is one of your favorite moments from your time with the Department of Dance?

Waiting time pre-dance concerts; we just sat in the dressing room, ate snacks, did makeup together, and took silly goofy mirror selfies.

What plans or goals do you have for post-graduation?

Visit my mother and baby nephew in malaysia, get a 9-5 job in Seattle, live in capitol hill, and take more dance classes in the community dance studios
