Biography

CJ Rivera is a fourth-year student at the University of Washington graduating with a B.A. in Dance. In high school, she was captain of the state and national title-winning dance/drill team which competed in kick and military. Since entering the Department of Dance, she has tried out various movement styles including modern, vertical, house, hustle, hip hop, traditional and contemporary African, and Afro dance. She will be returning to UW in the fall, continuing her education with the top-ranked University of Washington School of Nursing.

What is your favorite moment from your time with the Department of Dance?

My favorite moment with the Department of Dance was the MFA Concert in 2019, which was my first time performing in a concert dance environment. The whole experience was so positive and showed me how accessible dance as an art form could be. The creative challenge and the friendships I made during that process are what kept me coming back to take classes, and eventually declare a major.

What plans or goals do you have for post-graduation?

I was recently accepted into the University of Washington School of Nursing's BSN Program, so I will be returning to UW in the fall to start my journey toward becoming a Registered Nurse!
