On July 24th, Professor Rachael Lincoln choreographed, directed, and performed an unforgettable ‘vertical fashion runway’ 1,100 feet above the New York City landscape for an ad campaign with Adidas. Wearing sleek Adidas sports gear and using rope and harnesses to dance on the side of the skyscraper, Lincoln and her collaborators jumped, leaped, and flipped over the New York City skyline.
Lincoln is a longtime dancer and associate choreographer of BANDALOOP, an Oakland- based pioneer company in vertical performance that uses climbing technology to turn the dance floor on its side and expand what is possible in the realm of performance. BANDALOOP and global sports brand Adidas teamed up for this thrilling live performance at the Edge, NYC, an attraction in Hudson Yards that is renowned for having the highest outdoor observation deck in the Western Hemisphere.
Dance majors at the University of Washington have the unique opportunity to study vertical dance with Lincoln through the yearly Low Fly (rope and harness dance) courses taught in the Department of Dance.
More clips of Lincoln’s performance can be viewed on BANDALOOP’s instagram page.
