As part of the Carnival celebrations in Lima, Peru last weekend (February 20th, 2026), UW Department of Dance faculty member Dr. Rojas-Stewart gave a keynote lecture presentation on the “Origin and History of the Son de los Diablos (devils) Dance in Peru.” Dr. Rojas-Stewart’s presentation was also a part of the launching events for the 55th anniversary celebration of Grupo Cultural Yuyachkani, a Peruvian theater company often lauded as one of the country's most valued cultural institutions. Moderating the keynote presentation was Dr. Gisela Canepa, Director of the Ethnomusicology Institute at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
Congratulations to Professor Rojas- Stewart!
