InBody Dialogues with LaTasha Barnes

The UW Department of Dance hosts a day of conversations (both embodied and verbal) encouraging dialogue between street, club, and social dance communities and university students, scholars, and educators. Featuring a public lecture and movement workshop with visiting scholar/artist LaTasha Barnes, Associate Professor in Dance at Arizona State University who is internationally celebrated as a tradition-bearer of Black American social dance, including house dance, hip-hop, waacking, authentic jazz, and lindy hop. The event will also include a roundtable with community partners, a community dance showcase, and, of course, a dance party.

About LaTasha Barnes

LaTasha Barnes is an internationally recognized and awarded dance artist, tradition-bearer of Black American Social Dance, a renowned educator and tenured faculty as Associate Prof of Dance at Arizona State University. Operating between New York and Phoenix, Barnes’ expansive artistic, competitive, and performative skills have made her a frequent collaborator to esteemed arts & service organizations and artists around the world. She is the Visionary Creator and Artistic Director of the critically acclaimed, award winning intergenerational and intercommunal cultural arts experience and concert work ‘The Jazz Continuum’.
