About the Performance

Amy O’Neal, a 2026 Guggenheim Fellow in Choreography, has been working with students for the Spring quarter in a choreographic lab course. Over 10 weeks, Amy has been sharing practices from her experiences as a contemporary, hip hop, and house practitioner and how she has evolved to merge these forms mindfully over the course of her nearly 30 year dance career. Three times a week, students met to train in a consistent functional movement warm-up, hip hop and house foundations, and freestyle and composition exercises that draw connections between these forms while honoring their differences. Every student is coming from different dance backgrounds and explored how to bring all their experiences forward in their dancing to make what they do more powerful, connected, and expressive.
