
Biography
Jake Bone, originally from Dallas, Texas, was a New York City-based artist, choreographer, educator, and arts administrator for over a decade. He earned a BFA in Dance with summa cum laude honors from the University of North Texas, where he performed works by Bebe Miller, Nick Cave, Kihyoung Choi, and Anna Sokolow.
Jake performed and taught nationally and abroad as a company member with Doug Varone and Dancers from 2015-2025. He also served as company manager and tour manager and has set Varone’s repertory at universities across the country. In addition, he was a company member with Bare Dance Company, Gibney Company, and Awakening Movement. Jake was a founding member and creative collaborator for Gibney’s Hands are Holding® program, which uses dance and movement to engage young people in conversations about healthy relationships. As a freelance artist, he worked with Xan Burley + Alex Springer / the Median Movement, the Metropolitan Opera, Bulareyaung Pagarlava, Kensaku Shinohara, Steps Ensemble, Oui Danse, The Pharmacy Project, Zehnder Dance, Nicholas Andre, Lorena Egan, and Steeledance.
Jake served as an adjunct professor at SUNY Purchase College and has taught master classes at the University of Southern California, Texas Christian University, George Mason University, the University of North Texas, and others. He was a resident choreographer and programming director for Awakening Movement, and his work was presented at The Mark O’Donnell Theater in New York City and Links Hall in Chicago. Jake most recently created a new work for Brenau University. He is currently pursuing his MFA at the University of Washington
